It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to retire our beloved Forum Detroit. It has served the Polonia Detroit for over 10 years, and was a source of joy for many. However, after many months of inactivity, the time has come to bid it farewell.
Deepest and warmest thanks to all those who contributed to Forum discussions over the years, either by sharing their thoughts or reading those of others. Your presence and participation served as a building block of this online polish community.
The Hamtramck primary election will take place on Tuesday, August 6. I am running for my 3rd term as mayor, and am asking for Polonia's support once again.
Out campaigning door to door, it's been a real pleasure to meet with so many Polish residents and experience so much hospitality.
Once the primary's over, I should have a little time to follow the foum again.
See you at the polls on August 6!
Good luck to you, Karenka.
(I know you will be busy as always, but maybe when the election is over you can ask the president of the PAC why he won't release the money collected to fix up the Pope Paul Park. :p)
Karenka, can you post more information regarding your campaign?
There's just a little time left before the primary on Tuesday, Aug. 6. But if anyone is available for a couple of hours to help distribute literature at the polls on primary day, please contact me or my campaign manager, Matt Butterfield. His email is email@example.com, or you can call him at 734-679-6261. He'll be organizing the volunteers.
I hope you'll also keep track of the campaign and Hamtramck happenings by "liking" the campaign facebook page: Mayor Karen Majewski (as opposed to my personal facebook page, where some of you are already my "friends.") You can also volunteer through this page.
Once the primary is over, we'll be regrouping and the campaign will realy get underway.
Seems like a close call on today's primary election.
I woudn't say so. There were 4 candidates in the mayoral race. Algazali was the only Muslim. The non-Muslim vote, if we want to put it that way, was split between 3 candidates. I came in about 60 votes behind Algazali, while the other 2 candidates together accounted for about 600 votes. I should be able to pick up most of those votes in the general.
I meant between Algazali and Karen.
This election has been fraught with questionable practices and probable illegalities and voter fraud. Tip of the iceberg described in this article. Thank goodness we have a new (deputy) city clerk who knows the law and is on top of things. Regarding my opponent's taxes being an issue which could disqualify him, the Hamtramck City Charter prevents anyone who is a defaulter to the city from running for elected office.

I'm not sure if this is allowed in the forum, so moderators feel free to delete if it's not, with no hard feelings.
I'd like to invite forum members to a Re-Elect Mayor Majewski fundraiser on Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 10, 11824 Jos. Campau, from 6-9pm. There will be food, drink, music, and of course good company. Cost is $20. If you can't attend and would like to make a contribution to the campaign, we will miss you of course, but happily accept your (personal, not corporate) check made out to:
Friends of Karen Majewski
Hamtramck, MI 48212
Hope to see you there!
This is "the place"
After all, it is Forum dyskusyjne Polonii w Detroit.
Lets talk then:
Why Polonia should support you in the upcoming election?
Possible fraud cited in Hamtramck primary, information sent to prosecutor's office
The Wayne County Board of Canvassers voted today to forward information from Hamtramck to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and the chief Wayne County Circuit Court judge, saying there’s enough information to believe fraud took place in the city’s Aug. 6 primary.
