Bank robber caught after robbing Comerica Bank
07/01/2013 - Birmingham police have caught the alleged bank robber who entered the Comerica Bank on W. Maple Road at 9:20 this morning, Monday, July 1, pointed a handgun at the teller and demanded money.
Bank employees at the Comerica Bank at 1712 W. Maple Road in Birmingham complied with the lone male bandit, giving him an unspecified amount of cash. A responding Birmingham police officer observed the robber race out of the bank and run south across Maple. He then fled into the backyard of a house, where the officer lost sight of him.
Birmingham police were joined by officers from Beverly Hills, Bloomfield Township, Southfield, Troy and Berkley, who assisted by creating a perimeter. Seaholm High School, the BASCC Senior Center and two neighboring daycare centers were placed in lock down.
At 10:45 a.m., Birmingham police found the robber hiding in the bushes behind the First Presbyterian Church, which is directly across the street from the Comerica Bank. He was taken into custody at that time.
The man was in possession of a bag with the stolen money from the bank, as well as a loaded handgun.
Police report he was combative with the arresting officers and is not cooperating with investigators. His identity is currently unknown.
